The Crystal Grottoes Caverns is the only show cave in Maryland. It was discovered in 1920 and after digging and cleaning up the passages, it was opened to the public in 1922. The cave features a mesmerizing ceiling filled with stalactites.

This place is perfect for a day trip that can be paired with stops at the Washington Monument State Park which offers a beautiful view of the mountains. Perfect to wait for a sunset, even when the trail is covered in snow!
Lastly, you will be close to Antietam Battle field as well. If you still have time, make sure to check it out. Here’s where the bloodiest battle during the Civil War took place
